“Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” project demonstrates Dell
Philippines’ response to CEO and Founder’s Call to “Go
Global.”
As a response to the call of global
sustainability challenges in the Philippines, Dell launched campaign
dubbed as “3R Environment Stewardship.” The program—the name
of which is derived from “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”—is a
waste management project for environmental cause and community
service. Through the 3R Environment Stewardship Campaign, Dell
employees can now contribute in waste reduction and protection of
the environment.
“This is a big and relevant milestone for Dell
Philippines, because the company is implementing the 3R campaign in
lieu of a great cause,” said Michael Garrison, Dell Philippines
country manager, who had also announced Dell’s commitment to
neutralize the carbon impact of its worldwide operations in a policy
forum organized by the Center for Strategic and International
Studies.
One of the 3R campaign’s beneficiaries is
Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, a shelter foundation for the physically
handicapped, which Dell Philippines has chosen for its similar
advocacy in recycling projects.
“Dell Philippines will be collecting and
donating used beverage cans, foil packs and old newspapers in the
plastic bins,” noted Roderick Silva, Dell Philippines’ head of
environmental, health and safety department, “since these
materials can be converted into flexible aluminum tubing material,
which can subsequently be used as parts in creating wheelchairs for
our community partner [Tahanang Walang Hagdanan].”
Furthermore, Dell Philippines employees are
working to offset the emissions impact of the company’s remaining
energy. Silva added that “projects are being lined up to
evaluate the long-term viability of the 3R campaign, while also
ensuring that the carbon savings are real.”
Efforts being taken by Dell sites in other
countries also demonstrate Michael Dell’s call for the company to
“go global.” Dell recently committed to an aggressive, long-term
goal to be the “greenest technology company on the planet”—an
initiative that includes teaming with a group of
environment-conscious people called “The ReGeneration.” Moreover,
operations executives at Dell have continued to raise the
consciousness of emissions impact created by electricity use and
facility heating and cooling, thus motivating employees to offset
the emissions impact of business travel.
