Sepang, Malaysia: Filipino karter Marlon Stockinger makes his debut
on Sunday in the first round of the 2008 Formula BMW Asia Series, a
supporting event of the Petronas Formula 1 Malaysian Grand Prix at
the Sepang International Circuit.
The 16-year-old three-time Philippine Rotax Max
winner and World Rotax Max Championship veteran will compete against
drivers from Australia, South Africa, India, Korea, Japan, Colombia,
Malaysia, Pakistan and the US in the 17-round series.
Stockinger, who got a scholarship from BMW after
impressing judges in a tryout held last year, will be joined in the
Eurasia Motorsport team by 19-year-old Aditya Patel of India.
Expectations are high that the Filipino racer will be in the running
for this year’s Rookie Cup as well as the overall Drivers title.
