Alumni of the Philippine National Police Academy on
Monday denied being the source of a full-page paid advertisement in
a major broadsheet implying that they are discriminated in favor of
graduates from the Philippine Military Academy.
The paid advertisement appealed
to President Gloria Arroyo, members of Congress, and police brass to
resolve the supposed discrimination and other issues confronting the
alumni association of the police academy.
In the advertisement that came
out on March 2, 2008 (Monday) issue of the Philippine Daily
Inquirer, its placers also complained that they “are seldom
consulted [by the executive and legislative branches and police
leaders] even [on] decisions affecting them.”
The chief of the national police,
Director General Avelino Razon Jr., said Senior Supt. Sedrick Rain,
also association president, told him that the association had held
no meeting on putting out a paid advertisement.
Razon, quoting Rain, confirmed to
The Manila Times that the advertisement placed in the Inquirer
“does not reflect the sentiment” of the alumni of the police
academy.
The paid advertisement was also
addressed to Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno,
also the chairman of the National Police Commission.
Razon said they could not yet
think of anyone who could be the source of the advertisement.
He, however, added that they will
look at the issues raised in the advertisement.
