Lim orders stepped-up drive vs. vices

TO prevent the city’s youth from involving themselves in vices during the two-month school break, Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila on Monday ordered the Manila Police District (MPD) to intensify its campaign against illegal drugs and other vices such as gambling.

Lim met with city officials and members of the MPD to inform them of his “zero vices” directive, especially during the summer vacation. The mayor also asked concerned officials to seek assistance from barangay leaders.

Meanwhile, Lim said that he is currently coordinating with officials of the Manila Ocean Park to give children special discounts on entrance fees. Children are expected to visit the oceanarium in larger numbers during the summer break.

It was also learned that arrangements are being made so that poor children may also get to see the park free of charge.

Earlier, the Manila Ocean Park granted the request of the Manila City government to give the city’s residents a 10-percent discount.

Manila residents must only present documents such as birth certificates, identification cards or barangay certifications to avail of the discount. --Rommel C. Lontayao
