HARBOUR CENTRE will try to keep its unbeaten
streak going when it goes up against Hapee Toothpaste on Tuesday in
the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
The mouth-watering tussle—set at 4
p.m.—marks the first time the two giants clash since their epic
title showdown last conference.
Still inspired by their latest accomplishment,
the Batang Pier is leading the season-ending tournament with a 5-0
card. The Complete Protectors, on the other hand, are currently tied
for second to fourth places with upstart Pharex and Burger King at
5-2.
The Toyota Sparks, meantime, are hoping to
rediscover the spark that made them a regular fixture in the semis
when they duel with the San Mig Coffee Kings at 2 p.m.
The Sparks have yet to win in five games, and
coach Ariel Vanguardia hopes this could be the day they would
finally make it into the win column.
It would not be easy—for sure.
The Coffee Kings are also aching to get back
into their winning ways after losing to the Hapee Complete
Protectors before the Holy Week break. They are toting a 2-3 card.
For the Batang Pier, the championship they won
over the Complete Protectors was worth telling and retelling for it
reminds them of their gallantry and resoluteness. More than that, it
made them the only team in league history to win four straight
championships.
After winning 12 straight games, including the
first of the best-of-three finals, the Complete Protectors dropped
the next two games as the Batang Pier escaped with the championship
to establish a new record in the country’s premier amateur
basketball league.
