Senators lose on ‘executive privilege’

Voting 9-6, the Supreme Court on Tuesday granted a petition of Romulo Neri, the chairman of the Commission on Higher Education, to invoke “executive privilege” on his conversation with President Gloria Arroyo about the aborted $330-million national broadband network project with China’s ZTE Corp.

President Gloria Arroyo on Tuesday warned that the government will clamp down on rice hoarders who manipulate the commodity’s price amid a supposedly looming supply crunch. She gave the warning during a meeting of the National Economic and Development Authority-Cabinet Group with the National Price Coordinating Council in Malacañang.
