A sweet kitschy life

The Tagaytay home of Aficionado’s main man

People have their own peculiarities. For Joel Cruz, the preference for cool weather is one. “I like cold places. Whenever I travel, I never go during summertime. It’s almost always usually during winter,” he shares. It is then not surprising to learn that besides this Tagaytay rest house, the other is in Baguio.

Joel Cruz, the man behind the flourishing Aficionado brand and who has launched his own signature line of skin care products, is a story of success. A psychology graduate of the University of Santo Tomas, he realize early on that his strength lay in marketing. While he has had his shares of business lows specially in the mid 1990s when he had to close his garment manufacturing enterprise, he nonetheless opened more Aficionado outlets, a move that proved his business acumen. But despite being a hard-working businessman, Cruz finds time to reward himself. And this rest house was one.
