METRO Manila Development
Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando on Wednesday announced the
opening of the North Road Rail Station (NRRS) along EDSA-North
Avenue, which will serve as an alternative terminal point for
provincial bus passengers.
Fernando said the NRRS will serve
as an alternative bus terminal for provincial bus operators, which
will relieve the traffic-prone areas in Cubao and other areas in
Metro Manila where scores of bus terminals are already in place.
”The NRRS is a good alternative
loading and unloading station for passengers going out of Metro
Manila because it can accommodate a big number of buses at any given
time,” Fernando said.
The new terminal designed to
accommodate at least two slots for each provincial bus company
operating in Metro Manila.
The agency’s traffic personnel
will man the newly-opened alternative bus terminal round-the-clock
on three shifts, and free of charge to the bus operators.
MMDA Traffic Operations Center
Chief Angelito Vergel de Dios said the NRRS could help ease the
worsening traffic condition along EDSA, particularly in the Cubao
area, where at least 15 provincial bus terminals are located.
The MMDA has started strict
implementation of the ”nose-in, nose-out” policy in all bus
terminals along EDSA, particularly in Cubao, since the start of the
Holy Week. The policy prohibits buses from sticking out any part of
its body, especially the front or back, along EDSA.
”Each enforcer has been given
marching orders to apprehend violators of the nose-in, nose-out
policy because a single bus that goes against this regulation will
cause a gridlock along the entire stretch of the major
thoroughfare,” De Dios said.
