CLARK FIELD, Pampanga: The government presented
multibillion-pesos worth of infrastructure projects for possible
financing by multilateral and bilateral partners and the private
sectors during the Philippines Development Forum held here.
Finance Secretary Margarito B.
Teves said the P200-billion projects would increase investment in
infrastructure essential for inclusive and sustained economic
growth.
Acting Socio Economic Secretary
Augusto B. Santos said the biggest area for private sectors
investment in the country is the power capacity requirement of the
Luzon grid, which will need 1,950 megawatts of electricity for 2010
to 2014.
Preliminary estimate of the
required investment is about P80 billion.
Santos said the Visayas and
Mindanao grids also need additional power capacity.
Also on the list of projects
ready for financing are four road and bridge projects, two water
projects, and rail extension projects.
The biggest road project is the
proposed connection of the North and South Luzon Expressway, which
is estimated to cost P39 billion.
Other road projects on the list
are the construction of the 101-kilometer North Luzon East
Expressway worth P3 billion and the proposed operation and
maintenance of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.
Santos said the government is
also working on a public-private sector partnership for the Panguil
Bay Bridge project, which calls for the construction of a 260-meter
main bridge and 2,100-meter viaduct to link Cantrell and Northern
Mindanao.
The water projects on the list
are the supply of 300 million liters of treated water a day to the
southern part of Metro Manila and the provision of 50 million liters
of water supply a day for Rizal province to serve about 150,000
population.
For rail transit development, the
government presented for possible public-private undertaking the
four-kilometer extension of MRT Line-2 from Pasig City to Antipolo.
