Nitto Neo Gen earns top marks in testing

Nitto Tires’ Neo Gen models received high scores in a comparison testing of all-season ultrahigh performance (UHP) tires done by a leading consumer magazine. With evaluation based on nine criteria, 15 tires from several tire manufacturers were included in the testing that focused primarily on dry- and wet-weather handling and traction, and ride comfort.

All tires in the study were sized 225/40R18 and had a Z speed rating—which means they can spin at speeds of 240 kph or more. All tires were also evaluated by mounting them on an Audi A3 3.2 test vehicle that was driven on a closed test course. The data gleaned were combined with results from independent tread-wear testing that evaluated tread wear up to 19,200 kilometers.

The Neo Gen performed well in all tests, receiving a ranking of Very Good in both dry and wet braking and Good in both dry and wet handling. In addition to favorable results in three-season driving conditions, it also received high marks for its low noise, ride comfort and rolling resistance—scoring Very Good in all categories. The Neo Gen was also one of the most affordable tires tested.

Neo Gen’s unique asymmetrical tread pattern has multi-wave sipes that are optimized to reduce irregular wear, and its slanted, three-dimensional tread blocks provide the necessary rigidity for improved cornering and enhanced traction in varied weather conditions. The tires inner shoulder, meanwhile, is constructed from one continuous block. This solid rib design helps maintain stability that reduces tread flex and allows the tire to wear more evenly.
