THE long and agonizing wait for the more than 5,000
aspiring lawyers who took the 2007 Bar Examination will soon be
over.
The Supreme Court en banc will be
meeting Friday to set the date for the release of the names of the
successful bar examinees, which is either Friday or Saturday.
Justice Adolfo Azcuna,
chairperson of the 2007 committee for the examinations, said
Thursday that the names of the country’s new lawyers will be
displayed on LCD projectors to be strategically displayed at the
court’s front yard along Padre Faura, Manila.
The results can also be viewed
simultaneously at www.supremecourt.gov.ph, the High Tribunal’s
official website.
Figures from the Office of the
Bar Confidant, headed by Deputy Clerk of Court and Bar Confidant,
Lawyer Ma. Cristina Layusa, showed a total of 5,626 law graduates
from 109 law schools nationwide took the exams held on September 2,
9, 16, and 23, 2007 at the De La Salle University in Taft Avenue,
Manila.
A total of 5,804 law graduates
filed their petitions to take the 2007 Bar exams, and 5,799 were
admitted.
Under the Rules of Court, “a
candidate may be deemed to have passed his examination successfully
if he has obtained a general average of 75 percent in all subjects
without falling below 50 percent in any subject.”
In 2006, a total of 6,187 took
the bar exams and 1,893 passed, for a passing rate of 30.6 percent.
In 2005, out of the 5,607 who
took the test, 1,526 became lawyers or a passing rate of 27.22
percent. This is far lower compared to the 2004 results where 1,659
passed out of 5,249 examinees, or a 31.61-percent passing rate.
