PUREFOODS slotman Rommel Adducul, who was diagnosed with nasopharynx
cancer, is well and about.
Rene Pardo, Purefoods’ representative to the
PBA board of governors, on Thursday assured fans that the
32-year-old Giant is out of the hospital and has attended the
team’s aborted tune up game against Air 21.
“He only stayed in the hospital overnight
Wednesday last week when he underwent chemotherapy, Pardo told this
writer in a telephone interview. Pagkatapos ng chemo, pinalabas na
siya ng mga doctor [after the treatment, he was ordered released by
his doctors].”
“He’s responding well to the treatment.
It’s good that he is an athlete. Strong and young,” Pardo said
quoting Dr. Raffy Sanchez, the Giants’ team physician who is
attending to Adducul at the Cardinal Santos Hospital.
His next chemotherapy treatment, Pardo said,
will be on Thursday next week.
The Purefoods’ governor said he has personally
talked to Adducul, who expressed confidence that he can survive this
latest trial in his playing career.
“Kaya kong labanan ‘to, Sir,” Pardo even
quoted the four-year pro-league veteran as saying. “At tingin ko
naman talagang hindi pino-problema ang nararamdaman niya [And I
think there really isn’t a problem as far as he is concerned].
Pardo assured that contrary to newspaper
reports, Adducul, whose wife Joy is a kidney specialist at the same
hospital, has not been stricken out of the lineup and was replaced
Enrico Villanueva as a result of a blockbuster trade including
several players and three teams.
“Far from that, ‘yung trade na matagal nang
inaayos, ni hindi pa nga naiisipang ipa-ospital si Rommel,” he
said.
