RESULTS of the 2007 Bar Examinations will be known today, according
to the Supreme Court.
The High Tribunal’s spokesman, Lawyer Jose
Midas Marquez, said Friday that the decision was arrived at by the
justices during their en banc session so as to give court personnel
ample time to check every minute detail before the exam results are
released.
The Office of the Court Confidant, according to
Marquez, had earlier informed Chief Justice Reynato Puno that they
do not have enough time to encode and double check the results
within the allotted timeframe.
“Prior to the release, we really want to check
and double-check the matching of the examinees’ number with the
corresponding names of examinees,” Marquez said.
Marquez also pointed out that the 24-hour reset
would insure that names of successful candidates are correctly
matched to their number codes aside from providing sufficient time
to double or even triple-check the results.
The spokesperson also said that the passing
rates will be announced by Justice Adolfo Azcuna, chairperson of the
2007 Committee on Bar Examinations.
Figures from the Office of the Bar Confidant,
headed by Deputy Clerk of Court and Bar Confidant, Lawyer Ma.
Cristina Layusa, showed a total of 5,626 law graduates from 109 law
schools nationwide tool the exams that were held on Sept 2, 9, 16,
and 23 last year at the De La Salle University in Taft Avenue,
Manila.
The Rules of Court state that “a candidate may
be deemed to have passed his examination successfully if he has
obtained a general average of 75 percent in all subjects without
falling below 50 percent in any subject.”
