Mayor Fred Lim of Manila will lead the opening of the Bancathon 2008
on Saturday at Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard, in front of the Rajah
Sulayman Park.
The two-day event organized by the Manila
Broadcasting Company, the City of Manila and the Philippine Coast
Guard will be highlighted by a banca competition in stock and
formula categories.
Expected to see action are bangkeros from La
Union, Quezon, Bulacan, Zambales, Cavite, Boracay, Bataan, Batangas,
Albay, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Roxas City, Oriental Mindoro, Leyte,
Zamboanga del Norte and National Capital Region-based teams from
Ermita and Navotas.
This year’s dragon boat racing tourneys are
also set to run as local Olympic rowers, Southeast Asian and Asian
Games medallists, national rowers and members of the Philippine team
training pool race along the bay.
The tournament offering a total of half a
million in prizes, is supported by Globe, Caltex, Revicon, Gold
Eagle Beer, Dunkin’ Donuts, Cord Marine Epoxy, as well as Briggs
and Stratton.
