Salsa at the Peta

The Philippine Educational Theater Association Center turns saucy at night

BY day, the state of the art The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) Center is thee venue for cutting edge theater performances than inculcate, advocate and provoke nationalist ideals. By night, it’s a party place with an artsy twist.

Every Friday night this April, Midsummer Nyts Hap’nins! transforms the theater center roof deck into a bar where people can walk-in and expect different kinds of treats.

It’s Salsa Nyt on April 4 as Grupo Filipino Salsa gets you dancing to the lively beat of Latin American music.

The Philippine Playhouse tickles your funny bone on Comedy Improv Nyt on April 11. On April 18, PETA transforms into a French café chantant with Women’s Cabaret.

Carnivale Nyt on April 25 showcases poi (fire juggling) and an outrageous fashion parade by the Australian College for Hairdressing and Make-up.

Tickets are at P200 inclusive of a free drink. The bar opens from 6 to 9 p.m. for dinner and happy hour. Entertainment begins at 9 p.m.

Also this April, the PETA Theater Center hosts Encuentro Filipino, the Manila Concert! featuring the world-renowned Loboc Children’s Choir on April 12 and 13, 2008, at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The prestigious group will be joined by guest choirs such as the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir on April 12, 3 p.m.; UP Cherubims on April 12, 7:30 p.m.; and the UP Singing Ambassadors on April 13. Tickets are available at P1,000, P700 and P500. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the restoration of the Loboc Church (a National Heritage site) and for the scholarship fund for these talented young Boholanos.

For details call 725-6244, 410-0821 or 0917-5394707 or visit PETA at 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City (at the back of the QC Sports Club).
