CEBU’S Jeffrey Ardio shut out Forward Taguig in a
relief appearance on Sunday as the Series 2 champion Dolphins ran
over the Patriots, 6-2, in the opening of the Baseball Philippines
Season 2 at the Rizal Ballpark.
Taking over from the ineffective
Sandy Cerilo at the bottom of the third, Ardio yielded four hits but
sent four Patriots batters either swinging at the air or caught in a
slow grounder and easy flies.
With Ardio disarming the
Patriots’ hitters, his teammates, led by leftfielder Jon de Ubago,
centerfielder Jonash Ponce and actor-turned athlete Richard Gomez
feasted on three Taguig hurlers starting in the second frame.
Later in the day, rookie team
Batangas pummeled Dumaguete City with seven hits that produced six
runs in the last two innings in a whooping 14-8 victory.
That late blast broke an 8-all
deadlock forged after six completed frames on an equally murderous
seven-run salvo by the Dumaguete Unibikers in the fifth and sixth.
The Batangas Bulls actually
started like a house on fire jumpstarting its campaign with a two
hits, two-run attack in the opening period followed by a six-run
blast in the third.
The Unibikers remained
unperturbed though, knocking in three runs in the fifth on a pair of
connections and four in the next on as many hits.
