Edwin Ermita has not
conceded to Mark Leviste

BATANGAS CITY: Edwin Ermita’s lawyer bluntly stated the vice governor’s camp is intentionally misleading the public by spreading rumors that his client (Ermita) already withdrew his election protest, allegedly conceding to Mark Leviste in the vice governatorial race last year.

Lawyer Erwin Garcia, Ermita’s legal counsel clarified yesterday that the election protest case filed by his client hasn’t yet been resolved. In fact, he stressed, the Comelec is still counting the ballots, clearly showing his client to be still in the race and couldn’t be declared as defeated in the position he ran for.

Garcia made it clear that they didn’t “withdraw” their protest but instead, requested to stop the recounting because out of the 5,619 “contested ballots” they have submitted, 3,517 were confirmed as fraudulent, prompting them to conclude that there is no longer use for a recount of the remaining contested ballots.

Likewise, Ermita’s camp can’t understand why Leviste’s people are spreading erroneous information that Ermita will soon be functioning as the vice governor of Batangas, allegedly due to machinations of Edwin’s father, Executive Secretary Ed Ermita.

Edwin Ermita ran for vice governor during the May elections against then Board Member Mark Leviste where it is suggested that the Executive Secretary may have interfered in favor of his son, an issue strongly denied by the young Ermita, claiming he makes his own decisions and not even his father can influence him.

“Mark’s people may have been spreading conflicting information so that in the event that I’m already declared as the true vice governor of Batangas, the conclusion would be that my father has got something to do with it,” the young Ermita told The Manila Times, urging Batangueños to be wary of these rumors that he suggests are coming from the camp of Mark Leviste.

The Times is still trying to reach the vice governor as of press time.
