Bogus newsman arrested

Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) arrested on Wednesday a 35-year-old man posing as a media practitioner while extorting money from businessmen in Divisoria for their “weekly protection.”

The suspect, who is facing charges of attempted robbery, extortion, grave threat and grave coercion, was identified as Domingo Bandola, a resident of Navotas City. He was arrested through a complaint filed by Arshad Macarampati, president of the Muslim Jama Divisoria, Inc. based in Tutuban Mall, Divisoria.

Prior to this arrest, Bandola claimed he is a reporter of DZQL, a staff of television shows Imbestigador and XXX, and a writer for weekly newspapers. He was negotiating with stall owners in Tutuban Mall to give him P2,000 protection money every week.
