TOP seeds Ronald Joven and Rocky Paglalunan downed Mike Contreras
and Jimmy Tangalin, 6-4, 6-4, Thursday to reach the men’s doubles
quarterfinals in the First Gov. Anacleto C. Alcala Memorial Cup
National Open at the Lucena City Tennis Club outdoor shell courts.
Joven and Paglalunan will face Pablo Olivarez
2nd and Roland Ruel Jr., who scored a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Bernardo
Beniza and Andy Flores.
Also advancing were second seeds Alexander
Lazaro and Patrick John Tierro; third seeds Elbert Anasta and
Yannick Guba; and fourth seeds Ralph Kevin Barte and Johnny Arcilla.
Lazaro and Tierro won by default over Albert
Cornelio and Jonathan Imperial; Anasta and Guba defeated Mark Balce
and Michael Tenoria, 6-0, 6-3; while Barte and Arcilla clobbered
Marvelous Cortez and Jordan Villanueva, 6-1, 6-0.
Booking semifinal berths in the women’s
doubles were top seeds Bien and Bambi Zoleta; second seeds Trudy
Amoranto and Ara Micayabas; Allyssa Callejo and Aileen Rogan; and
Jean Gaerlan and Shirely Valler.
The P150,000 tournament offering P20,000 to the
men’s singles champion is supported by Quezon Rep. Procy Alcala
(Second District) and Gov. Raffy Nantes.
