THE Union Football Club will hold the Kellogg’s Cup
Youth tournament on May 3 to 4 at the Ateneo de Manila University
field in Quezon City.
The two-day event, which brings
together 672 players from 14 schools in Metro Manila, aims to build
camaraderie and sportsmanship among the students and their families.
Commissioner Jerry Andres said
the tournament, also supported by Alaska Fresh and Alaska Slim, will
have competitions in the boys’ 11-under, 9-under and 7-under, and
girls’ 13-under divisions.
Participating schools are Brent,
International School Manila, Japan International School, Ateneo, La
Salle Greenhills, De La Salle-Zobel, Multiple Intelligence School,
Faith Academy, Poveda, Miriam College, Xavier School, Immaculate
Conception Academy, Learning Child and Don Bosco.
Kellogg’s senior marketing
director Teddy Villaflor believes the well-loved breakfast cereal is
the perfect partner for the tournament as it shares the same
objectives of promoting healthy living through sports and a healthy
diet.
Union Football Club has been
instrumental in promoting futsal or indoor football in the country.
It established the first futsal school for the youth, UFC coach Ross
Calixterio of Canada, who is also the football division of Mizuno,
and Romario Gaucho of Brazil conduct classes twice a week in futsal
court for kids 15 years and below.
UFC also runs the Union Football
School, which was set up last year and is headed by Aldrick Diaz.
Diaz, UFC manager Dr. Rafael
Rodriguez and UFS head coach Ayi Nii Aryee are planning to form a
women’s futsal squad.
