THE Sta. Lucia Realtors snapped a two-game slide with an emphatic
111-97 victory over the Welcoat Dragons Sunday in the 2008 Smart-PBA
Fiesta Conference at the Araneta Coliseum.
With 6-11 import Wesley Wilson proving to be a
monster inside the shaded lane on both ends of the floor, the
Realtors led by as many as 25 points, 55-30, 3:40 left in the second
period.
“It’s really nice to get back and win again
after two straight losses. I appreciate our defense today. I told
them just to play real defense. Our problem now is our one-one-one
defense and we tried to practice it and this is the outcome,” said
Sta. Lucia coach Boyet Fernandez.
The Realtors raced to a 17-2 lead and cruised to
their fourth win in six games.
The Dragons lost for the first time after a
two-game winning run and dropped to 2-5.
They tried to rally in the second half, cutting
the gap to nine points, 62-71, behind the forays of imports Corey
Santee, Marquis Gaionous and Fil-Am Joe Devance.
But Kelly Williams, Ryan Reyes and Wilson
answered with their own run to restore a double-digit spread.
The Realtors shot 57.1 percent from the field
while holding the Dragons to 41 percent shooting.
They also asserted their might in the rebounding
department with 56 against the Dragons’ 43.
The 28-year-old Wilson, a former standout of
Georgetown University, scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and
issued two assists while Reyes finished with 19 points. Jay-Arr
Reyes led the Dragons with 23 points.
