Mitsubishi truck tops safety tests

Mitsubishi revealed its Strada pickup scored four stars out of a possible five in the Adult Occupant Protection category of the 2008 European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) and its Australian counterpart (ANCAP).

Mitsubishi credited its exclusive Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) body and frame system for the enhanced survivability factor of its occupants. The RISE frame incorporates the front and rear crumple zones with reinforced beams to absorb collision force and direct it away from the vehicle’s interior. Besides the RISE body, Mitsubishi also cited the Strada’s dual-stage front SRS airbags and seatbelt pretensioners.

According to the carmaker, the Strada also convincingly passed the Swedish Moose (also called Elk) test, where vehicles are made to do evasive maneuvers to determine if they’re stable.

Philippine Mitsubishi assembler and distributor Mitsubishi Motors Phils. Corp. (MMPC) said the test results are proof of the Strada’s competence and serves as a handy tool in further promoting the pickup—whose 4x4 version is presently enjoying a 34-percent share in its segment.

“It gives great value for the money, thanks to its unique features. And now, given this high rating safety rating from Euro NCAP and ANCAP, the market is assured that the Strada is also the safest pick up in the market today,” said MMPC Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Froilan Dytianquin.

shell, citi, visa offer fuel rebate

Pilipinas Shell, Citibank and Visa on April 23 announced they have collaborated for the first time to provide motorists with better fuel rebates coupled with their purchases through the new Shell Citi VISA Card. The companies said the card allows Filipino motorists to go even further with Shell by saving on fuel and other purchases.

The new Shell Citi VISA Card offers a 5-percent rebate on Shell fuel purchases, a 0.5-percent rebate on non-fuel purchases, a 5-percent to 10-percent discount on oil change services at Shell Helix Centers and free roadside assistance service, Shell said.

The launch of the new Shell Citi VISA Card was attended by officials of Shell, Citibank and Visa led by Ed Chua (Shell country chairman), Arlene Manalo (Shell Phils. marketing manager), Mark Jones (Citibank Global Consumer Group country business manager), Bea Teh-Tan (Citibank Cards business director), Surath Chatterjee (regional director for Cards Business) and Bob Joubert (Visa International country manager).

“People want the freedom to travel by car and we understand that fuel makes up a good part of monthly spending, so we have designed the Shell Citi VISA Card to help our customers get more out of their household budgets,” said Shell Retail Vice President Sammy de Guzman.

“Our relationship with Citi is vital because it means working with an established global leader in personal financial services whose credit card expertise, customer service and reliability are proven in over 50 countries,” he added.

Racers, celebrities support prestone

Prestone Coolant said racers, TV personalities, models, beauty queens and other celebrities who attended the Prestone Celebrity Pitstop event held last month at a Pasay City mall have supported its line of automotive coolant products. Prestone revealed that leading the guests was its new endorser, racer and TV personality Gaby de la Merced.

“Prestone will really take care of your car,” de la Merced said. She also bared that a previous mishap caused by an overheated car made her decide to endorse Prestone Coolant.

Also present at the event was de la Merced’s fellow racer Pia Boren, who said, “The engine goes through immense stress and to soothe it down you need coolants especially during these hot summer months.”

Prestone announced other celebrities who had their cars filled up with its coolants were Ram Revilla, Katya Santos, Christine Jaca, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Bruce Quebral, Wendy Valdez, JB Magsaysay and Miss Earth-Philippines pageant winners Cathy Untalan and Joycie Nocomura.
