Major global cyclones

 
1. April 1991: Around 138,000 people are killed in Bangladesh after tropical cyclone lashes the southern coast and causes tidal surge.

2. November 1991: Cyclone “Sidr” pummels Bangladesh, killing more than 6,000 people.

3. November 1991: Cyclone “Thelma” kills more than 6,000 in the Philippines.

4. October and November 1998: Hurricane “Mitch” hits Central America, killing more than 9,000.

5. October 1999: a “super-cyclone” slams into the northeast state of Orissa in India, causing the deaths of at least 10,000.

6. September 2004: Tropical Cyclone “Jeanne” roars through Haiti, leaving more than 3,000 dead.

7. August 2005: Hurricane “Katrina” makes landfall on the Gulf coast of the United States, killing at least 1,300, notably hitting the city of New Orleans.

8. November 2007: Cyclone “Sidr” kills over 4,400 people in the south and southwestern region of Bangladesh.
