Maoists to be cut from terror list

KATHMANDU: A US diplomat said his country is doing homework to remove the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M) from the terrorist list and eliminate Nepal from the negative travel advisory, The Rising Nepal reported Tuesday.

According to the daily, Political and Economic Chief of the US Embassy to Nepal Williams S. Martin informed that the US government plans to change its policy toward Nepal at a meeting here Monday with Nepal Chamber of Commerce Chairman Surendra Bir Malakar and the Chamber’s Honorary Representative for US Pralhad KC.

On the occasion, Martin said the US government was waiting on the issue of the formation of a new government.

Martin said Nepal is to decide whether or not to extend the tenure of the United Nations Mission in Nepal, adding that the US thinks that there is a need of additional positive role of the mission in Nepal.
