Rice forum to tackle imports,
domestic production issues

PROMINENT personalities from the local rice industry will be the resource persons of a media forum that will be sponsored by the Philippine Agricultural Journalists (PAJ) on Tuesday next week.

The forum is being held by the press organization to help inform the public on the real issues behind the recent rice crunch in the Philippines.

The resource persons are: Henry Lim, chairman and CEO of hybrid rice producer SL Agritech; Dr. Frisco Malabanan, director of the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) Rice program; former National Food Authority Administrator Jesus Tanchanco Sr.; and Jojo Garcia, a successful hybrid rice farmer from Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija.

Inez Magabual, an officer of the organization and executive producer of Maunlad na Agrikultura TV program, said the media forum will discuss the present issues facing the Philippine rice industry, particularly the need to import the grains, and what the government is doing to assure the country attains rice self-sufficiency in the next few years.

The forum will be held at 10a.m. Tuesday next week at Max’s Restaurant, Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.
