Summer style

Bare essentials

By Pauline De la Flor, Special to the Manila Times

Fashion icon and top model, Kate Moss,
inspires summer with the bare necessities
of summer mod. From basic denims and
gypsy-inspired beach wear to breezy
chiffon flair and dramatic evening fashion,
this season’s summer revelations are an
eclectic mix of carefree elegance
and diversity with
self-assured textured couture.
Kate encapsulates her ever-changing
sense of style through a collection
of pieces which channel the bohemian
traveler; referencing influences from Ibiza,
Miami, India and beyond for her fifth Kate
Moss Topshop collection.

Summer is now in full swing and according to the fashion forecast, ‘tis  the season to experiment and try something new! Playing on the traditional hues and textures, this summer sees style evolve with a richness and diversity inspired by the world traveler.

Drawing influence from the tropics to Euro chic, personal panache trumps conformity with style experimentation and eclectic taste as the bare necessities for a fun summer wardrobe that is sure to make you a style stand out.

It’s time for a closet check, my dears! Do you have the latest pieces that spell out the summer’s trendiest?

Taking cue from today’s catwalks and RTW brands available on Philippine shores, here’s a quick rundown of what’s en vogue for summer style!

Easy breezy

Stay stylishly cool this summer

season by wearing hues that are light and serene. White is the color of choice followed by its filial tones of taupe, beige, and fawn. Pastels are also a summer staple that can accent any ensemble.

Flowing fabrics add texture to an otherwise blasé look. Chiffon, linen, and crisp cottons are breathable options that flow nicely and are sure to keep you cool when the mercury rises.

Do denim

A must-have for any season, denims are a definite “do” this summer. From capris to minis, denim in all its variations will reflect your own personal fashion flair. Frayed and washed out, these styles are reminiscent of carefree islander charm.

Darker colored canvas is a perfect option to dress up your denims for a night on the town. Form-fitting silhouettes are still the “in” thing and create a slimming look for any body-type. Shy away from baggy jeans and skirts that are podgy and unflattering.

Nature-inspired

Mother Nature is a strong force of fashion inspiration this summer. Floral prints and natural materials are perfect muses that make up the seasonal look. While flower patters and leafy designs are a staple this summer, make sure not to go overboard. Keep your choices simple and not too busy.

And keep in mind, while flora is a go, fauna is a definite no-no. Stay away from animal prints and faux fur this season.

Bold bohemian

Everyone is going global, drawing inspiration from diverse cultural fashion. Gypsy dresses, bolero-inspired tops and broderie anglaise are in this season. Accessorize with Indian-esque bangles or dangling earrings. Coral jewelry plus turquoise and lapis lazuli make bold fashion statements as well. Diversity and uniqueness are definite style stand-outs.

To add drama to you evening ensemble, try a flash of color. Bold reds, blues and yellows spice up the trend by adding a dash of fire on cool summer eves. Mixing and matching pieces for an eclectic world-look is on top of the style meter this season. Experiment based on your personal fashion palette and don’t be afraid to try something new!
