JUST when you thought that the
infighting among officials of the Presidential Commission on Good
Government (PCGG) is over, the Department of Justice suspended for
90-days, the appointment of newly-installed Commissioner Jaime
Bautista.
Sources from the PCGG said that
President Gloria Arroyo herself ordered the suspension of the
appointment of Bautista, a classmate and friend of PCGG Chairman
Camilo Sabio.
With the suspension, Nicasio
Conti, erstwhile PCGG’s Commissioner for Legal Affairs, returns to
the agency to which its head has sought his ouster.
“The DOJ has suspended the
appointment of Commissioner Bautista has re-appointed Commissioner
Conti for 90 days,” sources told reporters.
The Manila Times tried, but
failed to get in touch with Conti.
When interviewed by The Manila
Times, Sabio said that he has yet to receive a copy of the DOJ
order.
He, however, stressed that Conti
has not returned to the PCGG.
Sources close to Conti said that
the commissioner is now reluctant to make his return due to the
hostility and the unfriendly environment that is being presented by
Sabio.
The position of co-chair for
legal affairs now seems to be jinxed with officials replacing Conti
unable to retain the post.
Bautista was presented to media
only last Tuesday. He served a replacement on Conti, who Sabio was
allegedly asking be removed from the agency.
He was supposed to co-chairing
the legal affairs department of the agency along with Commissioner
Narciso Nario.
