THE Philippine Coast Guard said on Friday it is
aiming at the goal of zero casualty in the upcoming typhoon season
of the country in a report aired on GMA 7 News channel.
Acting Coast Guard commandant
Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo said his command is monitoring security
at ports and is checking safety of vessels before they leave ports.
The Coast Guard also made ready
rescue personnel and medical teams to respond to any emergency at
sea, especially during typhoon season.
The Philippines is bracing for at
least 20 typhoons or tropical storms this year, as is forecast by
the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services
Administration.
Part of the country was hit by
storms this week as the first typhoon, locally called “Butchoy,”
is expected to usher in the rainy season in the coming days.
