JOEGEN LADON of Philippine Navy scored a 32-21
victory over Junel Cantancio of Philippine Air Force-A Thursday
night to stay on course for a possible showdown with Joan Tipon in
the featherweight division of the 2008 PLDT-Smart Open, Youth and
Women’s Amateur Boxing Championships at the Robinson’s Place in
Iloilo City
“Wala naman akong naging
problema, pero medyo sumakit itong kanang kamay ko. Pero hindi ito
makakaapekto sa susunod kong laban,” said the 27-year-old Ladon, a
native of Baguio City, who next faces Jherigs Chavez (Dexter Santos
Gym), a 15-8 winner over Misamis Oriental’s Alfredo Basadre.
Tipon stamped his class over Cebu
City’s Jerry Pajal to also earn a semis berth in the weeklong meet
organized by the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines and
hosted by the Iloilo City Government with Pacific Heights as
sponsor.
The 2006 Asian Games gold
medalist, out to regain his pride after consecutive disappoint
showings in international competitions, had Pajal quitting the bout
just 35 seconds in the first round.
