Saludar enters final in ABAP Nat’l Open

FROILAN SALUDAR scored an RSC-Outscored win in the second round against Cebuano Gerson Mercado on Friday to reach the seniors light flyweight finals in the 2008 PLDT-Smart National Open, Youth and Women’s Amateur Boxing Championships at the Robinson’s Place in Iloilo City.

The win sent the 19-year-old pug from Davao del Norte against defending champion Albert Pabila of Philippine Air Force, who eliminated Lordvemen Bautista of Puerto Princesa City 28-8, in the other semis bout.

“Gusto kong manalo rito kasi ginagamit ito para sa ranking sa national team. Gusto kong mapili rin sa malalaking international tournaments tulad ng 2009 SEA Games. Kaya gagawin ko ang lahat para makuha ang gold,” said Saludar.

Other big guns lived up to expectations as the battle for the seniors title in the tournament organized by Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines and hosted by the Iloilo City government will be disputed by defending champion Philippine Navy and Philippine Army.

Pinweight Bill Vicera, bantamweight Lhyven Salazar, featherweight Joegen Ladon, middleweight Florencio Ferrer and heavyweight Reynaldo Galido dominated their rivals to join welterweight Larry Semillano and light heavyweight Junie Tizon in the championship round.
