BAGUIO CITY: Defending champion Harbour Centre and Hapee Toothpaste
will try to inch closer to the finals when they clash against
separate rivals Monday in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup
semifinals at the University of Cordilleras Gym.
The Batang Pier will eye a commanding 2-0 lead
against San Mig Coffee at 3 p.m. while the Complete Protectors gun
for a similar cushion opposite Burger King at 5 p.m.
The Batang Pier, champions in the past four
conferences, survived some scary moments in Game 1 before pulling
off a 76-74 win last Friday at the Tarlac State University gym in
Tarlac City.
The Complete Protectors, on the other hand, used
a 17-0 run in the third quarter to score a runaway 82-70 win.
Hapee coach Louie Alas expects the Whoppers to
make the necessary adjustments. “I’m sure Game 2 will be a lot
more exciting.”
He’s also bothered by the absence of center
Jervy Cruz, who would be out for the rest of the series with a left
hamstring injury.
Filipino-American Gabe Norwood, Mark Borboran,
Reed Juntilla and Larry Rodriguez will have to work harder on both
ends to fill the void left by their top big man.
