Asus targets five-fold rise in Eee PC sales

ASUS International plans to grow its Asian sales for the affordable personal computer (PC) pack segment by more than five folds, with the Philippines its biggest market in the region.

In a briefing, Leon Yu, country manager of Asus Technology Philippines, said the company is confident of selling 5 million units of the Eee PC 900 worldwide.

“The Philippines will account for the highest unit sales in the South-East Asian region, since [our] best performance in terms of sales came from the Philippines,” Yu said.

Five months after Asus launched the Eee PC 700, the company has sold 1 million units.

Yu said the new generation of the popular PC pack has a whole range of hardware that includes 8.9-inch wide screen, a 1.3- megapixel webcam, the new innovative FingerGlide and 12 gigabytes and 20 gigabytes storage capacities for Windows and Linux platforms, respectively.

The executive said the Eee PC segment is using a built-in solid-state disk technology, which is quiet, energy saving and shock-proof for stable computing.

Eee PC 900 will be sold at P24,990 retail, or costlier than the Eee PC 700, which was priced at P17,500.

Yu said the company is targeting the female market, students and men who travel a lot.
