New Nissan MPV to finally
make Philippine debut

NISSAN Motor Phils. Inc. (NMPI) bared last week it will introduce in the country the new Grand Livina multipurpose vehicle in June. The Grand Livina, which has debuted in Indonesia and other countries in the region last year, had proven to be a strong seller, according to NMPI.

“We are aiming to launch this vehicle by mid-June in the Philippines, but already inquiries are pouring into our dealers,” said NMPI President Allen Chen. “This situation has made our dealers open to receive orders of the new Grand Livina earlier than we expected.”

NMPI said the Grand Livina was specially crafted at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan for the Asian market and penned by the Nissan Design Center.

“The idea is to conceptualize a modern vehicle for the new-generation family,” said NMPI Assistant Vice President Steven Hu.

NMPI revealed Hu was with the team that successfully launched the Livina lineup in Taiwan. His expertise in the vehicle proved to be useful in the emergence of this MPV for the Asian region.

NMPI said the Grand Livina won as “2007 World’s Most Beautiful Automobile” in China. After the vehicle’s launch in China, NMPI said the first right-hand drive version was assembled and sold in Indonesia where sales reached 900 units in the first month, leading to 13,600 units by the end of 2007.

According to NMPI, the vehicle was next launched in Malaysia in December last year, and has since received more than 10,000 orders and reservations. In Taiwan, the Grand Livina was launched less than five months ago, and NMPI said 1,500 units of it are sold there monthly.
