STAMPING its dominance not only in the premium car segment, BMW
Phils. proved it’s as competitive in golf by winning the Fourth
Society of Philippine Motoring Journalists (SPMJ) Golf Cup. BMW
Phils. has won the coveted prize for two consecutive years now.
Held on April 30 at the Intramuros Golf Club,
the event forms part of SPMJ’s fundraising efforts to help advance
its advocacy of promoting road safety among the nation’s youth.
The event, which has grown into a tradition in the local automotive
industry, not only fosters camaraderie among participants but
provides invaluable support in the pursuit of road safety awareness
in schools.
The BMW quartet topped the field with a score of
204 while first runner-up honors went to the Kia team which scored
206. Coming in as second runner-up was the Toyota team—which like
BMW has won the SPMJ Cup twice—with a score of 211.
The Ford, Mitsubishi and Isuzu teams each scored
217, 220 and 222, respectively.
The SPMJ has in the last few years been
conducting road and traffic safety seminars for educators and young
students through the group’s Early Warning project. The seminars
are based on teaching modules the SPMJ had commissioned the National
Center for Transportation Studies of the University of the
Philippines to develop.
Funding for the production of the modules and
the holding of the seminars come from the sponsorship of socially
responsible and relevant Philippine automotive companies.
