Harbour Centre makes it 3-0

BAGUIO CITY: Defending champion Harbour Centre moved a step closer to a historic fifth straight final appearance, beating San Mig Coffee, 69-55, on Monday in the semifinal round of the 2008 PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup at the University of Cordilleras gym.

NBL-bound Jason Castro, Chad Alonzo and Tyrone Tang scored 12 points each as the Batang Pier took a 2-0 lead against the Coffee Kings in their best-of-5 semis series.

The win was Harbour’s fourth straight over San Mig Coffee, including two in the eliminations.

“We were behind in the first three quarters because of our loose defense. We were struggling with it until we finally made our defense working well in the final quarter,” said Batang Pier coach Jorge Gallent.

“It’s really like this always if we relax on our defense we found ourselves catching-up. So, I told them that we have really to play good defense or lose the match,” added Gallent.

Jaypee Alcaraz topscored for San Mig with 18 points, while Neil Raneses and Bonbon Custodio added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
