Prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) products will
increase by 50 centavos per kilogram effective Friday.
The Liquefied Petroleum Gas
Marketers Association (LPGMA) made the announcement on Wednesday
saying that the hike is caused by the increase in world contract
prices and the exchange rates.
“The increase in world contract
prices of LPG coupled by the increase in exchange rate has resulted
to the price hike,” said LPGMA President Arnel Ty in an interview
over DZBB radio.
The latest increase in LPG prices
would be the third to be implemented by the independent group of LPG
distributors since January of this year. Last April 30, a
P2-per-kilogram hike was imposed.
LPG prices were also jacked up
last January, momentarily breaking the series of rollbacks that
began last December and continued into March.
The current price of a standard
11-kilogram LPG cylinder, presently pegged at P557 to P560, would be
priced from P562 to P565 by Friday.
Ty did not mention any adjustment
in the price of LPG used for cars, which is P27.20 per liter.
Somewhat alarmed over the
increase in LPG prices, Sen. Manuel Roxas 3rd renewed his call for
the government to come to support the proposed suspension of the
value-added tax (VAT).
Roxas computed that if the VAT on
oil is suspended, it will result to savings worth P60 to P63 per
11-kilogram tank of LPG. On other oil products, it will result to
savings of P4.60 per liter of diesel and P5.40 per liter of
gasoline.
