2 Filipinas in Hong Kong
face illegal drug charges

Two Filipinas are facing drug trafficking charges after being unwittingly used as drug couriers, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Philippine Consulate officials in Hong Kong are now assisting the two Filipinas, one from Baguio City and the other from Pozzorubio, Pangasinan. The detained Filipinas, who refused to be named, were arrested by authorities on March 26 and 30, and are presently detained at Tai Lam Center for Women in the New Territories.

Consular officials will be present during the respective court appearances of the two Filipinas later this month, to confer with their lawyers and monitor the judicial proceedings.

Consul General Alejandrino Vicente, however, clarified that these are the only active drug trafficking-related cases that the consulate is presently handling.

He reiterated the warning of the Philippine Embassy in Beijing for Filipinos not to allow themselves to be used as “drug couriers” by unscrupulous individuals who are working for drug trafficking syndicates.
