BURGER KING kept its poise under pressure and hacked
out a 70-69 win over Hapee Toothpaste to stay alive in the
Philippine Basketball League Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup semifinals
series on Thursday.
A clutch basket by Chris Baluyot,
his only points in the match, that barely beat the shot clock in the
final 45 seconds pushed the Whoppers’ lead to 69-66, giving them
enough cushion to hang in the endgame of the tightly fought Game 3
at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
Hapee still leads the
best-of-five series, 2-1, but the win certainly brought back swagger
on the Whoppers as they try to level things out when Game 4 is
played in Trece Martires City, Cavite.
“Now we have a series,” said
Burger King coach Allan Gregorio. “We’ll take things one game at
a time. We just have to believe in ourselves.”
Khiel Misa paced the Whoppers
with an all-around game of 16 points, seven rebounds and four
assists while Jason Ballesteros and Abby Santos had 13 each.
Larry Rodriguez had 18 points and
five rebounds for Hapee.
