ATENEO de Manila and Lyceum try to slam the semis
door shut on guest teams University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R)
and University of St. La Salle-Bacolod (USLS) as they shoot for the
pair of wins in the penultimate playdate of the quarterfinals in the
Shakey’s V-League Season 5 at The Arena in San Juan Friday.
The Eagles, already assured of a
semis seat with a 4-0 card, battle the Cebuano spikers at 4 p.m.,
looking for a sweep of the single round quarterfinal phase and the
momentum they would need for the next round.
But USJ-R is going all out to
frustrate Ateneo as it tries to stay alive in the hunt for the
fourth and last semis seat in the league sponsored by Shakey’s
Pizza and organized by Sports Vision.
With a 2-1 card, the Cebuanos
need only to win one of their last two games to clinch a playoff for
the last semis berth via the league’s three-of-five incentive
rule.
The second-running Lyceum, on the
other hand, takes on USLS at 2 p.m., hoping to complete a sweep of
its last four games after bowing to powerhouse Ateneo at the start
of the quarters.
