PUERTO PRINCESA, known as the “city in a forest,” will host the
second leg of the Philippine Pool Tour (PPT), a series of
tournaments in the country’s strategic cities organized by the
Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP).
The tournament presented by San Miguel
Beer will be held on June 21 to 24 at the Puerto Princesa City
Coliseum.
BSCP spokesman June Diokno said players who
joined the Mandaluyong Mayor’s Cup early this month are also
expected to compete in Palawan.
Mandaluyong Mayor’s Cup champion Antonio
Gabica, runner up Marlon Manalo and other local talents like Jericho
Banares, Leonardo Andam, Jeffrey de Luna, Leonardo Didal, Elvis
Calasang, Luis Saberdo, Elmer Kalaquian and Edgar Acaba are expected
to join the $30,000-event offering $10,000 to the winner.
“The great bonus of playing in Puerto Princesa
and in the PPT is that the player can play pool for handsome prizes
and tour the Philippines at the same time,” said Diokno.
“Participating players, regardless of how they place in the
tournament, will have a good time visiting our major tourism
spots.”
Registration is ongoing at the Star Billiards
Center in Quezon City (tel. 3646041) and Raya Sports in Makati (tel.
8952021). Entry fee is $50 (P2,100). Players with a Philippine Pool
Tour Card can avail of a 50-percent discount while members of the
Philippine Billiards Foundation will pay only P1,000. Players will
get assistance in their passage to Palawan and hotel accommodations.
