SOME of the world’s best anglers are set to arrive this week for
the Philippine Game Fishing Foundation (PGFF)-sponsored 7th
Philippine International Billfishing Tournament slated May 22 to 25
at the modern Don Andres Soriano Fishing Camp in Sta. Ana, Cagayan
Province.
Simultaneous to the international meet is the
holding of the Triple V-51st National Sportfishing Tournament in the
same venue. Restaurateur Vic-vic Villavicencio is sponsoring the
event to be participated in by 30 local anglers.
Insurance executive and PGFF President Tony
Espejo said new fishing areas in the zone have been discovered and
these will increase the chances of everyone getting good catches.
The zone is also the most productive heavy tackle venue in Southeast
Asia today.
Chinese Taipei is sending 16 anglers led by
defending champion Jung Tung Lu and Chi Ning Chuang.
They will be joined by 24 other anglers from
Russia, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.
Spearheading the locals are 2007 Angler of the
Year winner Bong Nery and his partner Stewart Chongson. The two won
the first PGFF heavy tackle tournament held at the Cagayan fishing
camp last week.
The father and son tandem of Paeng and Edwin
Guzman, runners up last year, are also seeing action in the
international competition together with Taiwanese Tseng Wei Kung and
Lu, Li Hsing, who finished third.
