Adamson stays perfect

Adamson remained perfect and on track to securing the top seed after Monday’s games in the women’s division of the Nike Summer League basketball tournament at the Far Eastern University Gym.

Anna Buendia and Angelica Ortega each scored 14 points as the Lady Falcons topped the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses 69-65 in Group B play.

The loss, UST’s first after compiling four straight wins, spoiled the efforts of Marichu Bacaro who tallied team-highs of 23 points, 6 assists and 4 steals.

Adamson’s unbeaten run was stretched to 7-0 but its clean slate could be in jeopardy with two games against playoff contenders La Salle and Lyceum remaining on its schedule.

In other Group B games, La Salle routed Lyceum 63-52, while University of the Philippines dumped National U 50-21. La Salle and UST were tied for second with identical 4-1 records. UP (6-2) and Lyceum (5-2) were ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Philippine Maritime Institute remained in contention for a quarterfinal berth after beating Philippine Women’s University 56-43 and raising its record to 4-3.

In the lone Group A game, the Philippine College of Criminology used a searing second-half attack to defeat Ateneo, 58-46. PCCr finished the group stages with a 7-1 record and clinched second seeding going into the next round.

The top four teams in each of the two women’s groups advance to the crossover quarterfinals.

ABS-CBN Sports features weekly highlights of the Nike Summer League on Studio 23 and will cover the live games starting on June 5 when the tournament moves up to the quarterfinals.
