The Department of Education on Wednesday called on
qualified Muslims to apply for the third batch of the one-year
Certificate in Teaching Arabic as a Second Language Program
scholarships at the University of Brunei Darussalam.
“The scholarship offered by
Brunei’s Ministry of Education is consistent with our thrust to
strengthen Madrasah education, especially in the Autonomous Region
in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM),” said Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.
Lapus said that the Madrasah
education program provides Muslims with an Islamic-friendly
curriculum and quality basic education. Madrasah is a school or
college attached to a mosque where young men study theology.
There are 16 available slots for
the scholarship program. Six are allotted for the ARMM, except for
Maguindanao which gets two slots. Tawi-tawi, Sulu, Basilan,
Maguin-danao and Lanao are entitled to one opening each. Regions 9,
10, 11, 12 and the National Capital Region are given two slots each.
Applicants must at least be high
school graduates but preferably a college graduate of a Madrasah
institution either here or abroad. Aside from having a high
proficiency in the Arabic language, an applicant must also have
above average proficiency in English language and a minimum score of
6.5 in the British Council International English Language Testing
