THE Billiards and Snookers Congress of the
Philippines (BSCP) hopes to get the support of other countries in
its bid to include the sport in the 2009 Southeast Asian Games in
Laos.
“We’re confident that the
Philippine Olympic Committee will try very hard to lobby the
inclusion of the sport in Laos,” said BSCP President Ernesto
Fajardo.
The limited facilities and
funding prevented Laos from keeping the 43 sports calendared during
the Thailand SEAG (Southeast Asian Games) two years ago.
Three more sports are expected to
be added to the 22 already calendared by Laos when the second SEAG
Council meeting is held late this year.
The Filipinos are considered
world-class in billiards, having dominated several world
championships including the prestigious World Pool.
Billiards delivered three golds
in the last SEAG and produced one during the 2006 Doha Asian Games.
