Reyes debunks ‘Oplan Greenbase’

Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes said the contents of the “Oplan Greenbase” documents, that the mutinous soldiers said drove them to stage the 2003 Oakwood mutiny, are fake. Reyes took the witness stand where he underwent more than four hours of grilling during the resumption of the coup trial of the Magdaló group before the Makati Regional Trial Court.

Reyes, invited to appear for the defense, said the claim of the Magdaló soldiers that the government was behind the series of bombings in Davao City and Cotabato from February to July 2003 was “outrageous.”

“My testimony would erase all allegations which have been aired regarding the so-called ‘Oplan Greenbase’ which are fake documents,” Reyes said in an interview after the hearing.

The mutinous soldiers, whose leaders includes former Navy Lt. Senior Grade turned Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th, claimed that the bombings in parts of Mindanao were part of “Oplan Greenbase” to warrant the imposition of martial law.

They likewise said the military offensive in February 2003 against the Pentagon kidnap for ransom gang at the Buliok Complex in Liguasan Marsh, South Cotabato was just a cover for the implementation of the Liguasan Marsh Development Plan.

The group called for the resignation of Reyes and other government officials during the Oakwood mutiny. But Reyes told the court that the group’s allegations have no basis.
