QUEZON CITY bets swept the Philippine Amateur Fencing
Association-organized cadet tournament held recently at the
Philsports Fencing Hall in Pasig City.
Michael Nicanor, Francois Licono and Nathaniel
Perez, won gold medals in the men’s foil division while Justine
Gail Tinio, Caselyn del Rosario, Clair Anne Galang and Wilhelmina
Lozada ruled the women’s division.
In the saber category, Clichellyn del Rosario,
Chiara Nadine Licono and Jylyn Nicanor dominated their respective
divisions.
The QC fencers are under the auspices of the SEP
Sports Program of First District Councilot Joseph “Sep” Juico,
son of former Philippine Sports Commission Chairman and Agrarian
Reform Secretary Philip Ella Juico.
“Our fencers were tested by equally tough
athletes, among them entires from St. Bridget’s, La Salle and
Ateneo. But our Quezon City bets gave their all, proof that we have
enough talents to rise from our beloved city, ” said Juico, who
has 51 athletes in various disciplines under his care.
Juico, who also supports boxing and basketball,
said some of the fencers will go to Brunei in December for their
first international exposure.
