San Sebastian, Adamson spikers seek V-League championship berths

SAN SEBASTIAN COLLEGE and Adamson try to seal a championship showdown in the Shakey’s V-League Season5 as they switch rivals Friday, eyeing no less than a pair of victories over Ateneo and Lyceum, respectively, at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Stags blasted the Pirates in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-16, in the opening of the single round semis Tuesday and are looking good as they face the Lady Eagles in the 4 p.m. main game which also features the clash of Thai imports Bualee Jaroensri (SSC-R) and Em-orn Phanusit (Ateneo).

The Lady Falcons needed four sets to subdue the Eagles, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, also Tuesday but will remain the slight favorites when they take on the Pirates at 2 p.m.

Victories by San Sebastian and Adamson will send the Stags and the Falcons into the best-of-3 finals although Ateneo and Lyceum will surely give everything they’ve got to stop their rivals and stay alive in the championship race in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.

The Lady Stags swept the Eagles in their two meetings in the elims, so did the Falcons over the Pirates. That should give the leading teams the confidence and motivation to repeat over their rivals with Jaroensri expected to lead SSC-R again and guest player Neriza Bautista likely to take charge anew for the Falcons.

Meanwhile, the Adamson-Lyceum duel will be shown on NBN-4 starting at 2 p.m. Saturday while the SSC-R-Ateneo clash will be aired Sunday. For details, log on to www.v-league.ph.
