Tañamor off to Taiwan

OLYMPIC-BOUND light flyweight Harry Tañamor will banner the country’s campaign in the inaugural AIBA President Cup slated May 25 to 31 in Taiwan.

Coming off a two-month training in Cuba, Tañamor and teammates Rey Saludar, Charly Suarez, Orlando Tacuyan Jr. and Genebert Basadre will be up against world-class fighters in the tournament held in honor of Ching-Kuo Wu, who is also the president of AIBA.

“This is a very important tournament featuring boxers from five continents who qualified for the Olympic Games,” said Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines President Manny Lopez.

Lopez, a member of the AIBA executive committee, will join the delegation together with Cuban coaches Juan Enrique Steyners Tissert and RP coach Pat Gaspi.

The RP team’s trip is sponsored by PLDT, Smart Communications, PSC, Pacific Heights and Lonsdale.
