MARK JAVIER, the only Filipino bet in archery in the coming Olympic
Games, is scheduled to compete in the World Cup.
The 26-year-old native of Dumaguete City will
join the third leg of the World Cup in Antalya, Turkey on May 27 to
31.
After the Antalya, the world’s No. 82 Javier
will see action in the fourth and final leg in Boe, France on June
23 to 29.
“This is a good opportunity for him to
experience the atmosphere in the Olympics because almost all
Beijing-bound archers are expected to show up in both
tournaments,” said National Archery Association of the Philippines
(NAAP) Secretary General Ligaya Manalang.
Javier is currently training at the FITA
(International Archery Federation) Center in Cairo, Egypt.
“Kailangan kasi na masanay siya sa malalaking
tournaments para mawala ‘yung kaba pagdating sa Olympics. So far,
maganda naman ang outcome ng training niya dahil nag-i-improve siya,”
added Manalang.
Joining Javier in France is SEAG gold medallist
Abbigail Tindugan, who recently passed the NAAP qualifying mark.
