DIGITALLIFESTYLE

Canon Ixus 80

What is it: A stylishly compact point-and-shoot digital camera.

Who’s it for: Women will love the size, weight and range of colors.

Wallet magnet: Light and compact; large 8-megapixel resolution; image stabilization feature to reduce camera shake; Canon’s DIGIC III processor; optical viewfinder plus the more convenient 2.5 LCD screen; SDHC compatible; nice price.

On second thought: 38-114mm lens is nothing special; body size and color (except for the standard silver) may only appeal to women.

What’s in the box: Canon IXUS 80 digital camera; rechargeable battery and charger; CD software and manual.

Tech Times’ verdict: The IXUS is simply getting better and better every time.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5

What is it: One of the latest point-and-shoot Lumix models from Panasonic.

Who’s it for: People looking for a Leica lens on a point and shoot digicam.

Wallet magnet: Leica lens make a big difference in picture quality compared to other point and shoot digicams of same class; updated Venus Engine IV image processor; large 10-megapixels resolution; 16:9 widescreen mode; SDHC compatible; quick auto focus; very good battery life; true pocket-sized.

On second thought: No optical viewfinder; no camera pouch included; had a hard time pulling out the battery from the cam.

What’s in the box: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5 digital camera; rechargeable battery and charger; USB cable; CD software and manual.

Tech Times’ verdict: One small but powerful point and shoot digital camera that almost equals the higher-end Panasonic FZ Series.

Kodak EasyShare V1073

What is it: The latest high-definition point-and-shoot digicam from Kodak.

Who’s it for: People looking for high-definition features on a compact-sized camera.

Wallet magnet: High-definition features with MPEG-4 compression; HD video playback at 720p and 1080i resolution; 16:9 widescreen mode; all-glass Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon lens with 3x zoom; Kodak Perfect Touch Technology and Kodak EasyShare System; large touchscreen LCD; up to 3200 ISO for low-light shoot; SDHC compatible.

On second thought: HD dock sold separately; average battery life.

What’s in the box: Kodak EasyShare V1073 digital camera; rechargeable battery and charger; A/V cables; USB 2.0 cable; custom camera insert for dock; CD software and manual.

Tech Times’ verdict: Kodak HD cameras deliver their promise of high-definition photos and videos in one well-designed package.
